This is an Apartment or Hotel intercom from the 20's to 30's. It was used in an individual's apartment to answer the front door and "buzz-them-in" by pushing the "Door Latch" button on the side of the phone. A second button is labeled "Manager" to call to "send up more steam". This phone appears to have been expertly refurbished some time ago. The black painted, high-gloss surfaces are in mint condition free of scratches or dents. Stamped in the case is "Western Electric", although hard to see. The brass transmitter faceplate, receiver hook and "directions" label holder are in great condition with only some minor wear and some corrosion to the screw heads, which could be buffed out. The faceplate is labeled "Property of American Tel & Tel Co 323 Pat USA Jan 14, 1913 ". The "number" holder is original but the paper insert is not. The mouthpiece is free of chips and cracks and has the "star" in the center. The front includes a glass-covered "instruction card", which may be the original. The receiver is also in good condition, free of chips and cracks and is stamped "Property of American Telephone and Telegraph Company". The receiver cord appears to have been replaced at some time. Inside is as clean as the outside. T is a nice original paper label with the wiring diagram and the number 533A. I will ship within 2 business days of receipt read more
