For auction is this original set of WMRY 15 inch Speed Letter Patterns from the Hagerstown, Maryland shops. These patterns were obviously used when the railroad painted GP35 #3580 as that number is written on each of them. I have had a heck of a time photographing them as they do not show up well in the pictures. The lettering is being shown backwards as the front side of the pattern was made on blueprint type paper and is even harder to photograph. These patterns have the small pin holes in them that are traced around the outer edges of the lettering. The holes allowed the pattern to be applied to the sides of the locomotive. According to the letter "M" pattern, this type of lettering was used on covered hoppers as well. The cool thing about all of these is that each pattern is marked with the proper measurements. Each measurement shows you the exact spacing between the letters as well as the overall spacing of the WESTERN MARYLAND. This is a complete set of 11 patterns, one pattern for each letter with NO duplicates of the same letter. I will admit they are dirty and somewhat beat up from being used, but they are complete. The only real damage is to the "W" w it was torn and repaired. That damage looks to be very old and no doubt was done by the WM painters. Although these patterns are not pristine, they are truly valuable to anyone read more
