WELCOME TO MY EBAY SALE FOR - A SUPERB SMITHS ENGLISH WESTMINSTER CHIMING MANTLE CLOCK circa 1950, This impressive clock stands about 8" high and 12" wide. The case is of light wood, probably Walnut with a lovely grain, and in very good condition, with only a few light scratches to one corner. The face glass with curved glass has a brass bezel which I have left unpolished as found, and it hinges and shuts perfectly to give access to wind the superb 3 train movement. The face has a cream, screen printed on metal dial with gold numerals, and gold finished hands, the wood background with the name 'SMITHS' and 'Made in Great Britain'. It has a beautiful movement with engine turned patturn on the backplate, and a later type suspended wheel escapement which is fascinating to watch in motion. A label admits 'Incorporating temporarily certain escapement parts of foreign manufacture'! The mellow Westminster chimes play as usual on the quarter hours, and can be silenced by a lever on the dial. The clock keeps accurate time, and is sold with its original Smiths key, and will be carefully packed.
