This is a super nice... Westmoreland Glass Company marked... Hen on a Nest. It sets about 4 ¼ inches tall... 5 ½ inches long.... 4 ¼ inches wide... and appears to be in perfect condition. This Hen is the "split tail" type... which is much more desirable than the "flat tail" style. The Hen carries the Westmoreland mark on the inside bottom... and the Nest is marked on the underside bottom and also in the inside bottom. We find both the early and the latter Westmoreland marks on the Nest... but only the later mark on the Hen. Our Hen is a delightful shade of Jadeite Green with a White Milk Glass Head. This is a time consuming... hands on operation... requiring the glass workers to retrieve the White Milk Glass from one furnace... and placing a small amount into the up-turned mold. Meanwhile a second worker is gathering the Jadeite Green Glass from a second furnace... which he then in turn places just the right amount into the mold to complete the operation. The Base is in the "Basket Weave" pattern... and is Honey Amber Glass. The combinations of glass colors in this set compliment each other exceptionally well. The lighter colored Hen on the dark glass Nest makes the Hen stand out... and become the focus point of the attraction. Just one super nice... Hen on a Nest!!!...
