Description: One of the Staffordshire potters who followed Anthony Shaw in the "Tea Leaf" madness, G. H. Grindley and Co. of Tunstall registered his "Favorite" shape in 1886 and produced it in white ironstone, plain to be transfer-decorated and with copper hand-applied "Tea Leaf" motifs. Offered is a medium-sized pitcher - I think a milk jug - from the "Tea Leaf" line. Measuring 6 7/8" tall (base to tip of spout) and with the distance between spout and handle being slightly bigger than 7 1/2" the pitcher has a very nice six panelled body with a wide band of fluting adorning its base. This is a beatiful example of the genre and one of the most endearing shapes of white ironstone produced in the latter quarter of the 19th c.. The pitcher is appropriately marked on the underside of its base with the pottery's signature in underglaze black print. Condition: Condition on this piece is excellent! I have no problems to report , no excuses to make. The white of the ironstone body is crisp and bright, free of stains or other discolorations; the glaze is shiny and translucent, with very slight overall crazing commensurate with age; last but not least, read more
