This is a lovely piece of American Victoriana, a compote with a figural silver-plated base topped by an elegant cut crystal bowl. The circular base has been prettily decorated all around with a charming design of roses and buds set amidst trailing leaves and vines. Above this t is an unusual and interesting gazebo-type area decorated at each of the corners with figural putti. In the center of this area stands an adorable little girl in the style poplularised by the famous painter, Mary Gregory. She's exquisitely detailed on both the front and the rear and is wearing a large bonnet with featd plumes and a long coat with large flap pockets. Her hands are tucked neatly into a fur muff. She looks like she belongs on a Victorian Christmas card, very sweet and demure! The cut crystal bowl is very good quality and fits snugly into a circular base in between a pair of pierced arms with lovely decoration. It all makes a really nice picture, and is very Victorian in its style and design. The cut crystal bowl has good weight and is very attractive. It has no chips or damage and is very clean in its coloration. It measures approx. 9" in diameter. The base is also in very good condition and has been clearly stamped on the underside with the words Quadruple Plated, and Wilcox Silver Plate Co., Meriden Conn. It stands approx. 9" tall and is approx. 12" at its widest point. This is a really great example of American Victoriana. The silver plate is in excellent condition. It needs to be cleaned better than I did. Nelson & Nelson Website The free listing tool. List your items fast and easy and manage your active items.
