A Hand Book of local and general information compiled by the Wilkes-Barre Record, Wilkes-Barre , PA. 20 th year of publication. The 2- column index to contents is inside front cover and includes such diverse topics as: deaths in Luzerne cty, Deaths in Wilkes-Barre, election returns, fatal accidents, fires in 1904,mining during 1904,old ladies home, population reports, various soldiers who died, state hospitals prisons, World's Fair attendance, and much more. Lots of diverse and interesting little reports. The language used is interesting with little adjectives thrown in which give an idea of the opinion of the writer. "An incident showing the rottenness existing in some of the townships and municipalities of the county developed during the year when an investigation into the affairs of Duryea borough was conducted..." Elsew it seems concerns of then are still relevant today ..."The scarcity of tenant houses continued, t being very little building on account of the high cost of material and labor, t was considerable anxiety during the early part of the year on account of the insufficient number of homes to accommodate the people and this will likely be continued for some time. " Minimal advertising, one in front for ink and printing co and one page at back for Thompson Derr & Bro insurance; Amer Standard Paper, Gas co of Lucerne, Wilkes- Barre Record Printing and for the Megargee Bros Paper on the inside back cover with Wyoming Seminary in Kingston on the outside back cover. CONDITION: The booklet is 8 1/8 inches by 5 3/4 inches in size with 110 pages plus the one advertising page at back. Pages securely bound with 3 rusty staples serving as binding. A heavy blue paper cover glued at spine. The Cover is a bit faded and yellowed on margins and has diffuse bit of yellowing, grime, faint stains. It is still firmly attached. T are 1/8 inch to ¼ inch long chunks of missing paper at very top /bottom of the spine covering. Title page and inside front cover have a rust spot/speck in exact same location. The 3 staples seen clearly on title page at hinge are rusty. Interior pages are lightly yellowed, a bit more near edges with occasional stray speck, dark spot and t Lower right corners have soft bend last few pages and back cover. Condition overall is good.
