OUR SINCERE APOLOGIES TO ALL THOSE WHO HAD PLACED BIDS ON THIS LAMP IN ITS INITIAL LISTING ON eBay, BUT WHEN OUR CONSIGNOR COULD NOT LOCATE THIS LAMP UNDER THE 'SECTION' HE IS ACCUSTOMED TO SEARCHING IN, WE WERE ASKED BY HIM TO IMMEDIATELY & PROPERLY RE-LIST THIS LOVELY WILKINSON LAMP UNDER "COLLECTIBLES". WE ERRED IN NOT DOING THIS THE FIRST TIME THROUGH, AND THE FAULT IS OURS EXCLUSIVELY. PLEASE DON'T ALLOW OUR INEXPERIENCE (WITH "Selling") TO PUT YOU OFF WHAT IS A GENUINELY NICE, VINTAGE LEADED TABLE LAMP. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Offered for sale, at NO RESERVE, is an early Wilkinson leaded glass lamp, circa 1910 to 1920, with its original, ornate Ram's Head bronze base, deeply stamped with the model number "250" on the underside of the base itself. If one looks very closely --- it is so very faint our digital camera cannot even gain enough resolution to display it --- t is a faint "Wilkinson Lamp Co." moulded into the underside of the base, as well, in script form. Due to the quality of construction and its superb glass, we initially believed this lamp to be made by Duffner & Kimberly, but a bit of research on the bronze base motif (lol...and yes, using a big magnifying glass on the underside of the base to read what was t lead us to identifying the proper maker. The style of this lamp's tall shade --- simplicity complimented by perfectly contrasted colors --- is Arts & Crafts through and through. This lamp would look marvelous on a Stickley end table, even better with a nice piece of Grueby pottery to keep it company on a quarter-sawn oak stage. The glass in this 18.5" shade is superb, displaying uncommon dichroic qualities usually only seen in the best Tiffany lamps. The medium-burnt orange glow from the long panels is perfectly accented by the green terminals, which are in turn beautifully set off by the darker, coppery accent panels at the rim. All these attributes combine to generate incredible visual warmth when the lamp is lit, and the singular height of the shade (some 11.5") gives it real presence. Overall, this lamp's leaded shade is in excellent condition for its age, having only a few scattered, tiny heat checks & t, which we have been told by lamp experts is normal in leaded lamps from the Arts & Crafts era. None of these heat checks are profound, nor are any of them "loose", or showing separation of any kind. The copper-foil leading is superbly done, and intact throughout; t are no loose glass panels waiting to drop out ! The 3 acorn pulls look original, but one of the Hubbell sockets appears to have been replaced; it nonetheless shows an 1899 patent date on its shell. The Bronze Wilkinson base on this lamp has a medium, coppery-chocolate patina, with scattered hints of verdis gras, and appears to be wholly unmolested. In a subtle fashion, it is very ornate, but one only realizes the depth of finely cast detail under close inspection. As mentioned briefly before, this base displays a deeply-struck "250" underneath, presumably its Wilkinson model number. (A complimentary Wilkinson base, just one model away at number "251", can be seen underneath another, gorgeous Wilkinson shade in the current eBay ad for item number 120289513728. If you enjoy these fine, old lamps, the floral shade alone on this "other" Wilkinson is very much worth a quick look !) Finally, despite the fact that this lamp functions just fine "as is", the plug is a bit too wiggly at the end of the silk-wrapped lamp cord for our taste. As a basic safety consideration, we strongly recommend that the new owner have this corrected by a competent electrician, or even have the lamp professionally rewired as a general precaution of sorts before it is put into regular use.
