Up for auction is a fantastic vintage set of Will George, California Pottery candlestick holders. Will George and his partner Brad Keeler were the rage back in the 50's. I may be mistaken, but I believe these were actually sold at dime stores and department stores when they first came out. They have become very collectible over the years for their fine work and detailed pottery. This particular set is hard to come by in such great shape. They are so fragile, that they end up broken, chipped and repaired. These candle holders stand 6" tall x 4 1/2" wide. They are both stamped W.G. with original stickers that read Lipman Wolfe & Co. (most likely a department store??) One has D154-40670-64. The other is worn and only has the store name and D154. I think these vintage stickers add to the value and history of a very well known artist no longer in existence. The only noted damage that I can find is glaze miss underneath one handle, which is not seen. T is a half pin-head size chip on one leaf, and a minute tiny imperfection on another. Both would be easily touched up with a dab of paint or magic marker--they are that small!! It would be difficult to find a pair like this in such wonderful condition!! I am a huge flamingo fan and sadly enough am downsizing and have to say goodbye to some of my favorite pieces.
