For auction this week is a trade cross by silversmith William Evens. The cross has his mark of the sejant (seated) fox in a tombstone cartouche. He was a silversmith from 1761 - 1784. His pieces are rare as he was not in business for as long as other silversmiths. He was commissioned to make "goods proper for Presents to the Indians in the Northern Department of America". The cross measures 2 3/8" long and 1 7/8" wide. Single bar style. Cross is hand-forged by the silversmith. $5 shipping. Ancient Auctions is aconsignment seller of high-end collectibles.
