From a clockmaker's estate this Gilbert clock movement is offered in as-found condition. Discovered in the clockmaker's workshop, this movement is very dirty, dusty, tarnished, and rusty. But it is most interesting. It is marked "Wm. Gilbert Clock Co., Winsted, Conn., USA." Although it looks to be in very rough condition, the only parts that appear to be missing are the pendulum suspension spring & wire. And it does not appear to be plagued by any poor repair work, either. The strange thing about this movement is that the strike side is spring driven (though the spring is broken) and the time side is weight driven. Both drive gears look original to the movement. I was not aware that Gilbert made a spring-weight combination movement like this, so very interesting - if correct & original - which it looks to be. My speculation is that this is most likely a higher quality wall clock or large shelf clock movement and this is further substantiated by the fact that t is a small bar extending about a quarter inch out of the pivot hole in the center of the escape wheel, on the front of the movement, which I presume to be for a seconds bit hand to attach. The weight drive gear still has old string like cabling around the barrel and an old weight pulley; but I would not know if the pulley is original or not. This interesting American movement is definitely worthy of restoration. The movement was not tested due to its condition, so selling "as-is." No pendulum, no weight. I will ship this movement in a USPS flat rate priority box for $9.00 anyw in the USA. Shipping to Canada is $23 and to the rest of the world, $37. See my other auctions for more clock movements.
