For sale is a United States Distillery Warehouse Stamp with an engraved portrait of Zachary Taylor, signed by future President and Supreme Court Chief Justice of the United States, William Howard Taft (1857-1930). This document was signed by Taft around 1882, when he was appointed the collector of the internal revenue for Cincinnati, Ohio. T is a punch cancel not affecting the signature. This piece was originally purchased from Alexander Autographs, Inc. and comes with a description document from Alexander Autograph, Inc. William Howard Taft was the 27th President of the United States and the the 10th Chief Justice of the United States. His presidency was characterized by trust-busting, strengthening the Interstate Commerce Commission, expanding the civil service, establishing a better postal system, and promoting world peace. Taft never wanted to be president, having his sights set on being Chief Justice from an early age. However, being hand picked by Teddy Roosevelt to succeed him, he agreed to run for president on the Republican ticket. After Taft served as president, Roosevelt wanted to replace Taft with himself, thus splitting the Republican ticket, resulting in the election of Democrat Woodrow Wilson. As with all of my items, this piece comes with a LIFETIME guarantee of authenticity. Payment for this item is to be made within 48 hours of the close of the auction, unless other arrangements have been made with seller, prior to the close of the auction.
