WILLIAM IV STERLING SILVER DESSERT SPOON, HALLMARKED LONDON 1836, MAKER: MARY CHAWNER
PLEASE NOTE THE POST OFFICE INCREASED IT'S CHARGES ON THE 1st OF APRIL This is a beautiful William IV Sterling silver dessert spoon, it was made by Mary Chawner, the widow of William Chawner II and then hallmarked at the London assay office 1836. It measures 6 7/8 inches (157mm) long with a bowl that is 2 32/8 inches (61mm) by 1 3/8 inches (35mm) by around 3/8 of an inch (10mm) deep. The rear of the handle carries a good set of British Sterling silver hallmarks for London 1836 / 37 and a very rubbed makers mark of 'MC' for Mary Chawner, this is inverted with respect to the assay marks and is difficult to decipher. there is also a journeyman's mark.It has a Sterling silver weight on my scales of 27 grams. It is made in the fiddle pattern, the top of the handle caries the engraved initial 'M'. Condition is very good with a nice patination. Please see the pictures.
