WILLIAM TILLYER British 1938- William Tillyer was a printmaker, painter, ceramist, illustrator and teacher. He was born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire. He attended the local art school and the Slade in 1960-1962, painting with Coldstream and etching with Anthony Gross. After which he joined Hayter in Paris at the Atelier 17 were he furthered his printmaking skills. From 1963-1970 he taught part time at Chelsea School of Art and etching at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham until 1972, and at Watford School of Art 1970-1973, In 1981-2 he was Artist in Residence at Melbourne University, Australia. Tillyer travelled widely, travelling around Europe in the early 80’s and South Western America in 1884. Visiting California and Arizona in 1990.
