This information is from the Wilton company........"A rather authentic reproduction of an early American antique pewter mug, the "Beat Up" Mug (a.k.a. "That Old Beat Up Mug") was so named because of the appearance of its original pewter piece. Instead of refining the piece to its original state, it was reproduced after over 200 years of use in 1968, by the Wilton Armetale Pattern Department. It is suitable for a rustic Americana and American Country home environment." And the following info is from an Ebay guide....."The Gates House pattern is the only pattern to have dents, cuts and intentional imperfections cast into the plates. By their nature, Wilton's pieces have imperfections as that is part of their beauty.....T is no mug or cup specific to this pattern, but I believe the 166-04 Old Beat Up mug is a great accessory." This mug pattern was discontinued in 1981. The condition is excellent - I don't believe they have ever been used. Both of the mugs still have the pattern number 166-04 sticker on the bottom. They measure 4 1/8" tall x 3 1/4" top diameter and 3 3/4" bottom diameter. T are a few minor scratches that probably occurred after manufacturing but it is difficult to tell since t are so many intentional scratches/dents, etc. Also, the fact that they were hand finished, leaves them slightly different from each other.
