This auction is for a Wimshurst machine with 28 cm discs. It is of a newer make, with plastic Leiden jars and a plastic rotating disk, rather than glass. But it does work nicely, better in fact than older versions I have used. The picture is of an actual spark we drew from the machine. THIS MACHINE HAS REPLACED THE COPPER BRUSHES WITH FOUR METAL PROTRUSIONS. THE RESULT IS ELECTRIC FOR ALL THE RIGHT REASONS. I AM HAVING FUN WITH THIS MACHINE AS IT IS MORE READY TO POP AND THE SPARKS SEEM BIGGER. I ALMOST GOT ELECTROCUTED THE LAST TIME I TESTED ONE. JUMPED STRAIGHT OUT OF MY CHAIR BECAUSE I DID NOT EXPECT THE JOLT AND IT POWERED UP MORE EFFORTLESSLY THAN MY LAST MODEL WITH THE SHORT COPPER BRUSHES. I UPLOADED A NEW PICTURE THAT SHOWS THE SHARP PROJECTIONS LATER IN THE WEEK. THIS WAS A REALLY GOOD IMPROVEMENT ON THE DESIGN OF THIS MACHINE.This Wimshurst machine can be used in electrostatic experiments the same ways older machines are used; for example, you can charge the Leiden jars, and then rotate the metal rods with the balls at the end so they come into contact with some item you wish to charge, or w you want a rapid discharge. But you cannot remove the Leiden jars.The machine is new. We took it out of the box to make sure it worked and then repacked. You will receive it in the original box.
