I am a member of the APIC and strictly ad to their Code of Ethics. This item is being sold in order to thin down my Presidential Memorabilia collection to a managable size: “Win With Willkie” Silk Banner, 1940 This item is a highly collectible and very rare piece of American history. This is a red, white and blue lovely, small silk banner. The banner has a white/cream background with blue & red stripped border. At the top is: “Win With Willkie.” In the center is a WIllkie illustration with a ribbon and: “Liberty, Defense, Economy.” Under Willkie’s illustration is: “For President.” The line in the image on the right side is not a tear or damage but a loose thread. The silk measures 5” wide by 7” tall. As you can see, it is in excellent condition. Background: As war approached, FDR faced another Presidential election. Although some Democrats questioned whether Roosevelt should seek an unprecedented third election term, the party nominated Roosevelt with Secretary of Agriculture Henry Wallace as his running mate. The Republicans selected Wendell L. Willkie, who made a strong race against FDR. Roosevelt’s winning margin was smaller than in 1932 or in 1936 but his margin in the electoral college was 449 to 82.
