WINCHESTER Mdl. 98 10 Ga. Signal Cannon - Not a Repro

Up for bids is a Winchester Model 1898 10 Guage Signal Cannon. This is an original model manufactured by Winchester from 1903-1957. It is NOT one of the licensed reproductions made from the 1970's on. It does not fire a projectile. It was manufactured for signal only. This is marked on the barrel "NOT FOR BALL" and has the roller bearing on the striking mechanism. The repro's are marked "For Blank Use Only" and don't have the roller bearing. The barrel is also marked "manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, Conn. U.S.A. Patented Aug. 20, 1901 10Ga." and " Winchester Trade Mark Reg. US Pat Off,". This is not one of the first 1000 or so made because the barrel end is 1 1/4" in diameter and not 1". For more information go to /topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=364812 This is the website I used the most to find out about the cannon. As you can see, the wheels have been painted blue. The website says that all of the cannons were all black except for the ones with chrome barrels. I have seen one with red trimmed wheels and one with gold wheels, so I guess somebody or maybe clubs painted them. I have made no effort to try to clean this up, so there is rust on the cannon, and definitely the barrel needs to be cleaned. Everything works though. The signal cannon is 6 5/8" wide, 7" high, and the barrel is 12" long. The carriage is marked "W.R.A. Co. Trade Mark Registered In U.S.A.". I don't really know anything more than what I have listed here, but I will try to answer any questions. I have followed three auctions for other cannons like this, so I am not going to start it at a low price. This is up with no reserve! I will let the auction run its entire course! I will not post any Buy It Now price or stop the auction in any other way! I will ship promptly after payment is received via USPS Parcel Post or UPS. Buy should contact me within 1 day of the close of the auction to indicate how it should be shipped. The package will weigh between 17 and 18 lbs. I do not add any shipping or handling charge to the shipping charges of USPS or UPS. Thanks for the look!
