This is an original Winchester-Springfield-Krag "Rear Sight, Rifle, Model 1901, Type 3. This one came from a Winchester Model 1895 Saddle Ring Carbine, and will also fit some muskets. It measures 3 and 5/16" long (base) and 2.9" tall (ladder), with a hole spacing of 2 and 5/16" (actually 2.350"), on center. Maximum range is 2000 yards. There is a small "5" stamped in the base just forward of the front mounting screw hole. These and similar sights were used on Krags, the 1903 Springfield and possibly some Lee Navy rifles, as they were all similar vintage. As several different styles of sights were used on muskets and carbines, upper handguards were made in several different configurations to fit the different sights. They don't necessarily interchange. The sight is in perfect shape mechanically and has much of its original finish with no rust or pitting.
