Up for auction is without doubt, the CLEANEST WWI Winchester P17 rifle bayonet I've ever come across. Simply put, it's nearly un-used. The blade retains virtually all of its parkerized finish, and is profusely martially marked at the ricasso to include the large Winchester "W" in a circle. The hilt, pommel and guard additionally retain virtually all of their original blued finish and the wooden grip panels, as the photos will attest, are also remarkably clean. Interestingly, this bayonet came out of an estate sale (with several others, see my other auctions) with a standard BRITISH pattern scabbard, and not the regulation US green leather scabbard w/ 1910 belt hooks. You can swap it out or simply leave it as is, as I've no doubt that these have been together since being squirreled away after the Great War. The scabbard's leather is also remarkably clean and supple, and the black painted throat and drag only show light oxidation, consummate with their age. Overall, you'll look long and wide before you'll find another Winchester bayonet for the Pattern 1917 Enfield rifle as nice as this one, so don't miss it!
