Milne HERITAGE TRADE EDITION By the Limited Editions Club (1940); New York , The Heritage Press; HC (no DJ) ; 8vo, 9.5” x 6”; 190 pp.; 1st Thus Edition Description: Publishers blue cloth with a gilt pictorial impressed to the cover and black titling to the spine (originally gilt?). All edges stained red. This classic fairy tale was first-published in 1908; the book offered is the first Heritage Press edition. T are twelve, beautiful, full-page, full-color illustrations by Arthur Rackham. They are in virtually-perfect condition, and they are blank on the reverse. In addition, Rackham has done a line drawing to introduce each of the twelve chapters. As mentioned above, this was Rackham's last book, completed when he was very ill and allowed by his physician to work only one hour a day. According to Rackham's biographer, Derek Hudson (1960, page 49), Rackham's final drawing "...was that of Rat and the Mole loading their boat for the picnic...When he [Rackham] had, as he thought, finished it, he suddenly discovered that t were no oars in the boat...he insisted that everything must be right, and with great labour he altered the drawing and put in the
