You are bidding on a watercolour/ink painting of the 'Wind in the Willows' Characters 'Rat & Mole' It is clearly a representation of the characters as drawn by E H SHEPARD and is certainly of exceptional quality. THE PICTURE MEASURES OVERALL 12" X 7", and the actual image 8" X 5" IT BEARS A PENCIL ANNOTATION "A charming litle drawing of indeterminate pedigree or provenance - but well worth framing" and signed A Nicholls, the lady who passed away and left her artwork which I bought. As an artist myself, from time to time I am a tutor at my local Art Society/Art Centre, and I found this item in a parcel of pictures, artwork, art paper and frames from the residue of a local amateur artist's 'estate' which I purchased. Although it is clearly an original 'drawing' it is doubtful that it is an original of E H Shepard - and of course there is no provenance to link it to him. However it is eminently colectable as a drawing in it's own right and demands to be tastefully mounted and framed. The price I have started this auction at, £15, reflects the lack of provenance whilst accepting that it is indeed beautifully drawn and painted . LUCKY BIDDING!!
