An interesting and highly accomplished oil painting depicting an atmospheric winter landscape by highly regarded 20th century British artist Frank Kirby. This is a rare example of the artist's work being offered for sale on the open market, Kirby was not a commercially motivated artist and although some works were sold during his lifetime most of his output was retained or sold directly to private collectors. Kirby can be said to have made a genuine contribution to the 20th century British school and this is a wonderful example of his work, painted with the strong colours and bold confident brush strokes that are typical of Kirby's work. The painting is signed verso. A wonderful opportunity to acquire an original painting by an often overlooked modern British artist whose work is sure to become increasingly desirable and sought after as it emerges into the art market. ConditionThe painting is in very fine original condition. Artist InformationFrank Kirby was born in Newcastle upon Tyne and was educated at Bootham School York and St. John's College, University of Cambridge, later studying art at the City Literary Institute, London. He lived and worked for the majority of his life in London and later Kings Langley, Hertfordshire. Kirby exhibited his work at London's Southbank Centre and elsewhere, fellow London artists have variously described Kirby and his work as 'Excellent, powerful paintings', 'A native gift', 'It was a great privilege to work with him'. Through his work in London, exhibitions and interaction will fellow artist's Kirby can be said to have made a genuine contribution to the 20th century British school of art. 'A pacifist with an acute mind he did not have an easy life, and those who knew him though he tended to live in the past. This could give the impression that he dwelled on some of the difficult experiences, that he found it hard to move on - but there was another way of looking at things, for in many respects Frank broke free of family expectations, he didn't conform to his parent's ideals and values, he made something different of his life, and found a purpose and creativity of his own.'
