Wisconsin Kennedy Dinner Program ~ 1962
This auction is for a program book for the Wisconsin Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner on May 12, 1962. The event was to commemorate two great American patriots, Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson. Special guests for the dinner, which was held at the Milwaukee Arena, were President John F. Kennedy and singer Andy Williams. Speakers, in addition to the president, were Milwaukee mayor Henry Maier, Wisconsin governor Gaylord Nelson, congressman Clement Zablocki and Patrick Lucey, chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.
The program measures 9" x 12" and has 60 glossy pages. The book begins with one-page photos of JFK and Gaylord Nelson and goes on to list the dinner committee members, hosts and hostesses, menu (which included a slice of ice cream lettered J.F.K.), the event program and dinner attendees listed by their home county. The last 44 pages are devoted to sponsor advertisements including Miller, Blatz, Pabst and Schlitz Beers along with dozens of other companies from around the state.
Aside from some wear along the spine, the program is still in good condition. The inside pages are clean although t are a few notations by attendees names and "touching occasion" written next to the Toastmaster entry in the program.
