September 5th 1967 in Detroit Mi. was good to The Box Tops, they had the #1 song for the second week in a row,"The Letter". They were followed by one of our very own hometown favorites Bob Seger. He was still climbing with the #2 song "Heavy Music". Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl", Mitch Ryders "What Now My Love", Jackie Wilson's "Higher & Higher", The Animals "San Franciscan Nights", & The Soul Survivors with "Expressway To Your Heart" all had song on the charts this week. The following week, September 11, 1967 did not offer much change in the top standings. The Box Tops were still holding at #1 while local fave Bob Seger was still at # 2. The previous weeks KEY SONG "Soul Man" by Sam & Dave was making it's move. It was sitting pretty at # 26 while the new KEY SONG of the week by The Doors,was about to explode on the scene- - "People Are Strange". Featured albums for these two weeks became a huge part of our lives that September in 1967. The albums I refer to just happen to be "The Doors", by The Doors, "Are You Experienced?", by Jimi Hendrix, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", by The Beatles. The only one missing is "Their Satanic Majesties Request" by The Rolling Stones. That's only because the had already released it and had "Dandelion" climbing up the charts at # 16.
