KENTUCKY SILVER SMITH, WILLIAM KENDRICK, WAS KNOWN FOR HIS HAMMERED COIN SILVERWARE FROM THE MID 1800'S**** He is part of the history of silversmithing in Kentucky, and is noted in the "The Kentucky Encyclopedia" and in "Kovels on Antiques and Collectibles". In the "The Kentucky Encyclopedia" he is noted as "one of the leading silversmiths of the Empire Period" They state that he was forced into bankruptcy by the financial panic between 1838 and 1842. After his financial recovery. he produced some of the major pieces of the of the Renaissance Revival era, along with Garner & Winchester and Hudson & Dolfinger. Due to the Civil War and the beginning of mass production, the period of individual silversmithing ended in Kentucky. Since then the hammered coin silverware has become collector items. Also one of William Kendrick's pieces, a silver mint julep cup, is listed in the Antique Roadshow for $2000. These 6 coin silver hammered serving spoons were handed down to my Grandmother, then to my mother. After my Mother passed away we were unable to find out who the monogram belonged to. I am not even able to read the monograms. I have tried my best to figure out who the monogram belonged to but was unable. Maybe someone out t will recognize the monogram. We do know that they were made in Louisville, Kentucky and my Grandmother lived in Bardstown. These spoons have to be approx 130-150 old. They weight approx 12oz or 336grams of coin silver. They have a hammered appearance, especially in the bowl. They are 6 serving size spoons measuring 9 inches long, the bowl of the spoon is 3 inches long and approximately 2 inches wide. The handle is 6 inches long and 1 1/4 in wide at the widest point. The handle turns up at the very end. The end of the handle has 3 monogram letters. The are made as described for the period as noted in the "The Kentucky Encyclopedia." Wm. Kendrick is engraved or stamped on the back of the handle. The pictures I have taken show the engraving on the handle and the name of William Kendrick on the back . Most of my photos have been taken with natural sunlight when possible. Most of the pictures have been enlarged to show detail. Please see the measurements for actual sizes. REMEMBER THE HOLIDAYS WILL BE COMING UP SOON. MY ITEMS WOULD MAKE VERY NICE GIFTS. ***SORRY, BUT IF A PERSON HAS A LOW FEEDBACK SCORE OR HAS NONPAYMENT COMPLAINTS, PLEASE CONTACT ME BEFORE BIDDING. I RESERVE THE RIGHTS OF NOT SELLING TO THESE INDIVIDUAL. ***
