An exceptional example of the Secession style which became one of the dominant trends in art and design in the first decade of the 20th century, in Germany and in Central Europe. The vase is more typical of the revolutionary designs which emanated from Vienna, rather than the more typical Art Nouveau style which was so popular in the fin de siecle period. The vase is more typical of the designs of the Orivit firm which had been bought out by the WME firm in the frist decade of the 20th century. The vase measures Eleven & Three-Quarters [ 11.75 ] inches in height. The base is just under Four [ 4.00 ] inches in diameter. The mouth is Two & One-Half [ 2.50 ] inches in diameter. The vase is six sided. I count only one tiny ding on its surface. I suspect the vase may have been lacquered at some point in its history. The vase is well marked with the WMF logo: a lozenge, inside of which is an ostrich and possibly the letters "WMF," all of which is inside a bee hive dome. The mark is worn, but enough of the outline survives to show that it was definitely made by WMF.
