Kiyonaga (1752 - 1815) Japanese Woodblock reprint A Rare Opportunity- Check out these offerings. This unique combination of high quality, old reprints and fantastic provenance will not be repeated. Collect old prints with the Muller provenance and delve into the exotic world of old Japan. How were these prints done? These beautiful woodblock reprints were done exactly as the originals. An artist carved a wood block, one for each color, and hand printed each print one color at a time. These old reprints are sought after for their meticulous attention to detail and color, rivaling the originals. Unlike the brighter, souvenir prints seen on the market these fine reprints show the attention to detail and careful color choices intended to exactly replicate the old originals. Detail of this Print Women in an Iris Pond From the Imperial Household Museum Series- This beautiful old reprint is from the famous, and highly sought after, Imperial Household Museum publisher. These prints were released in small quantities by the Imperial Household Museum in the early 1930s and are some of the finest and most rare reprints that were printed in the 20th century. They are sealed on the reverse with the Imperial Household Museum seal (see photo below). They are nice opportunity to collect a fine old print of the ukiyo-e masterwork. Comments- A beautiful old reprint of this lovely Kiyonaga masterwork depicting two young beauties of leisure enjoying a traditional garden, and iris pond in summertime. Classic Kiyonaga portraiture with the two elegant women, beautifully attired in summertime. Nice embossed detail in the water and on the women's garments. An excellent piece for display. Artist & Signature- Kiyonaga (1752 - 1815) Size- 10" x 15 1/4" Provenance and our guarantee- Robert O. Muller collection, collected by Muller in Japan in the 1930's. Each print sold with certificate of authenticity from Fuji Arts (noting Muller collection provenance). Condition- Excellent unless otherwise noted. Muller was known as a first rate conservator and took exquisite care when storing his prints. These woodblocks are clearly old prints showing the markers of paper that is 70 years old with the wonderful sense of an old print. Imperial Household Museum Seal Collecting these old reprints- Collectors dream of owning and enjoying some of the most famous, historic, and beautiful Japanese print images of all time.
