Glover, African explorer; Mrs Patrick Ness, the first woman elected to the Council of the Royal Geographical Society; Mrs Cressy-Marcks, who made a remarkable voyage down the Amazon and crossed the Andes; Evelyn Cheesman, entomologist; Gloria Hollister, deep-sea diver; Gertrude Benham, who travelled round the world seven times and walked across Africa; Kathleen Rice, trapper and prospector; Isobel Hutchison, botanist; Dr. Winifred Blackman, anthropologist; Freya Stark, the explorer of Persia; Madame David-Neel, the first white woman to reach Lhasa; Ella Maillart, who walked alone through Central Asia; Mrs Murray Chapman, photographer of Iceland; Mrs Stobart, who went through astonishing adventures in Serbia during WW1; Ann Burgess, who worked for the Armenians in pre-war Turkey.
