This auction is for a wonderful, rare vintage 14kt Gold Ring with Nofretete Coin (Nefertiti portrait coin) that was made in Germany. The ring is crafted out of solid 14kt Yellow Gold and features a solid 14kt Gold Coin that contains the portrait of Nefertiti or Nofretete as she is know in Egypt. The coin is not a legal tender coin and was made for the German Exhibit of the Nefertiti Statue that was discovered in 1912. The coin and ring were probably sold during exhibits at the German Museum w the statue was stored and shown until the war broke out in 1939 and the Museums closed in Germany. The ring is a womans style signet ring that measures 1/2" across and 1/2" from top to bottom in the front and tapers to 1/8" in the back of the ring shank. The coin is keep in place with four "prongs" on the back or underside of the coin. Both the ring and the coin are solid 14kt yellow gold. The ring is stamped "585" which is a European hallmark for 14kt gold. Both the ring and coin have been professionally tested as well as 14kt solid gold (not plated or filled). The ring has a lovely "sun beam" design that goes around the front of the coin, the rest of the ring is done in a smooth high polish (see pictures). The coin reads "Nofretete Regina Aegyptiorum" Nofretete or Nefertiti was the Queen of Egypt around 1354 BC and is one of the most famous of Queens next to Cleopatra. The ring has engraving which reads "Ellern 32.8 " which dates the ring to August 1932. T are not very many pieces of this wonderful coin left, in doing my research for this item, I have only come across a few examples of Jewelry made with these coins and they have all been in Germany or referenced in old estate auctions. Germany and Egypt were negotiating the return of Nefertiti's statue when World War 2 broke out and the statue was hidden during the and did not resurface until the Egyptian Government asked the United States to help in the return of thier priceless artifact. I just love pieces like this that have an Historical connection!!! The ring is in remarkable condition and has been very well cared for, so it is in very good shape. Both the ring and coin do shows signs of wear but you need a loupe or magnification to see any signs of wear. My pictures do not do this lovely ring justice! The ring weighs 4.4grams of solid 14kt yellow gold, it is a size 7 3/4 and it is sizable. This is a very collectable item and very wearable too!! Thanks for looking and Good Luck!
