This lovely old Dutch ship's clock was designed and patented by r.d. EERDEN in Rotterdam, Holland around 1880. The heavy and very well made movement was produced by the HAMBURG/AMERICAN CLOCK COMPANY in Germany for supply to the Dutch market. The movement is marked with the Hamburg symbol (Crossed Arrows). We can only imagine the many ports of call that it visited while in service on one of the renowned Dutch trading vessels that sailed around the globe in the 19th Century. The solid Oak case features a beautiful carved rope pattern around the brass bezel and door glass (see photograph). The brass dial is engraved with the words--r.d. EERDENS PATENT ROTTERDAM, HOLLAND (see photograph). The movement has recently been cleaned and serviced and runs about 4-6 days per full winding with a solid authoritative 'tick'. There is a speed adjustment control on the dial to maintain good time keeping. The carved rope design on the case compliments a wonderful "Old Salt" of a clock that is priced RIGHT for fast sale.
