WONDERFUL IRONSTONE GOTHIC REVIVAL SOUP TUREEN c1850 Presented is a gorgeous English, ironstone soup tureen. The piece consists of a two-handled bowl raised on a pedestal over a large base. The matching cover has an elegant pear form finial and a small opening for a ladle. The bowl, the cover, and the base are all original to each other and done in the Gothic Revival style. They are octagonal with curved, paneled form and lovely flower accents in each panel. The soup tureen was made between 1845 and 1855. The soup tureen is marked on the underside of the base with Improved Opaque China, and a maker's name. The maker's name is difficult to make out. It could be T F & Co., or L F & Co. The soup tureen is in excellent condition for its age. The pear finial was broken off at one time and reattached. The bowl itself has no crackling, but the cover and the base both have crackling which has produced a tiny bit of discoloration on the underside of the cover and some small spots of discoloration on the base. Otherwise, everything is in great shape. T are no chips and no cracks. The soup tureen is 9 1/2 inches wide at the rim, 12 3/4 inches wide from handle to handle, and has a total height of 14 1/2 inches.
