Antique Collection of Mary Weest's Handwritten Diaries 13 Notebooks starting from 1878- 1904, Mount Holly, New JerseyThey also include period newspaper clippings, correspondence, a letter from G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic), business letters & much more. They originate from Mount Holly, New Jersey. They are a treasure trove of period history and information. I called the Mount Holly Historical Society several times and haven't heard back from them. I don't have time to read them all and I must, reluctantly, sell them. Alot of entries are of the weather but many others are very interesting. Entries about the sinking of a ship in the Spanish- American War, a storm which sunk ships along the New England coastline, floods, church, events in town and so much more. Please ask questions. I purchased the suitcase at an estate cleanout. I am starting the selling with a low opening bid and no reserve for this once in a lifetime collection of Americana.Shipping : U.S. Postal Service. Free shipping within the continental United States. Will calculate international shipping. I have been getting inquires, questions and comments since the diaries were listed. I will be posting information and additions to the description. West Orange in New Jersey was Weest Orange. The diaries are from Mary Weest as stated. Thomas Edison had a lab in Weest Orange in the late 1800's, the primary date of the diaries. Upon some further reading there are entries in 1880 about the railroad, trucks, cousin Maurice in Utah, Mr. Murphy the "grete temperance speaker coming to speak at " the Baptist Church", fires, floods, the fire department getting a "new steam fire engine" and much more. I was informed that the diaries came from the same estate where a srcapbook was sold which contained 3 letters from Thomas Edison, were signed by him and authenticated. I do not have time to read the diaries, but they are of the same period of the lightbulb patent at Menlo Park. There were other interesting events in American history during the time period of the diaries, gold in the Black Hills, the last Indian Massacre at Wounded Knee Dec. 1890, and many other events. Whoever wins the auction can have the pleasure of any discoveries. I just don't have the time or energy to read or study them. And as stated, I don't want to sell them, but with much regret, I have to.
