Emil Schanz, master cigar maker, began making cigars in the 1920's for some of Chicago's well known good guys and bad guys. He last operated his Pioneer Cigar Factory out of the basement of the house w I grew up on Chicago's Near North Side, until 1960 when he died. In 1967, when my family bought it and moved in, his widow told us whatever was left was ours... and that included the cigar factory records, receipts, and equipment. The house has since been torn down, but some of the old equipment and memoribilia still remains, along with my memories. NOTE: Only the Wooden Cigar Mold is offered The photos of the cigar box, label, and chopper are only to show its history and are not offered for sale in this auction. The number on this mold is 500587. It was made in Cincinatti by The Miller Dubrul & Peters Co. , probably circa 1920. It molds cigars at 5" long, tapered at one end.
