This 9.25" dark blue historical Staffoeshire plate, from Enoch Wood's Regular Shell Border Series is from a Drawing by B.K. Fox, engraved by J. Lybrand, circa 1820. Larsen states that the Mill is famous for its then owner, Thomas Gilpin revolutionizing the production of paper from hand-made to machine-made in 1816. Brandywine Valley is located in Chester County, near Philadelphia. The plate is in wonderful condition with even surface wear..no cracks, chips, hairlines or repairs. It dates to 1830 and shows the title of the scene on the reverse together with Wood's impressed mark. The title is "Gilpin's Mills on the Brandywine Creek."I have placed a low-side reserve on this piece that is way under the 1999 book value. It is a quite scarce view in this series. I have not seen another of these is some time. The free listing tool. List your items fast and easy and manage your active items.
