Very High Value Collection of 12,370 Classic 1840-1936worldwide foreign stamps Housed in Comprehensive 2 volume Stanley Gibbons "New Ideal" Postage Stamp Album (1840 to mid-1936 Edition ) These 2 volumes include the world excluding U.S. and British Empire (no colonies, China) through the George V era when these albums were published in 1936. (Some page separation in one volume) _____________________________________ SPECIAL SITUATION I am a lifelong stamp collector (APS# 82957. Lifetime member) who became disgusted with trying to keep up with all the post-WW2 worldwide "wallpaper" being issued. So I sold my worldwide collection in 1983 and have focused entirely on my U.S. collection ever since. In 2002 my wife decided she wanted to start collecting, but - with my hearty endorsement - decided to limit her collection to "the first hundred years" of stamps... 1840-1940. We bought two collections on eBay that year. I recently offered the first, a Scott International Jr. collection, on eBay (item # 180628165219). Now the much larger 2-volume (A-J, K-Z countries) Stanley Gibbons collection will also be sold. IT TOO REMAINS EXACTLY AS IT WAS THE DAY IT ARRIVED AT OUR HOME... because darling wife never got around to working on "her collection." There are indications (hinge remnants, page cutout) that a relatively small number of stamps had been removed by previous owner (and may be part of included "bonus" material discussed below). [Low reserve price is FAR below what I paid for the collection in the 2002 eBay auction when I acquired it for my wife] This collection of 12,370 stamps (I counted them) is for you if you are a beginner - intermediate - advanced collector seeking to add many hard to find - and expensive - classic stamps to your collection. In going through the collection to prepare for this auction, I have listed a sample of just a few of the better stamps from a wide range of countries to give you an idea of the high quality level of this collection. I used a borrowed 2007 catalog, so the $10 to $350 values of these album mounted stamps sampled for this list may be higher now. But first , here's the "bonus": I. Re: SPECIAL EXTRA BONUS EXTREMELY HIGH VALUE STAMPS (see illustrations) When I won this collection on eBay auction 9 years ago, the seller included (possibly accidentally) 5 stock cards with what would be very, very (that's two very's!) high value stamps on them, assuming they are all correctly identified. The prior owner neatly noted them as to Scott #, whether they are stamps, essays, trial color essays, or reprints. The Scott values noted by previous owner for each of these 59 stamps range from "$24.00" to "$11,500.00? " These stock cards were in an envelope inside the back cover of one of the albums. I do not have the expertise to comment on whether or not the 59 stamps on these stock cards are described correctly. If I were keeping this collection, I would definitely turn to an expertising committee to confirm the identification and value of some of the 59 stamps on these stock cards.
