A beautifully crafted Pond Yacht - the Zenith. This boat is a working model, sturdily constructed. The lead ballast is well cast into the keel. Zenith can be free-sailed or controlled by a nylon line attached to the apparatus in the fore foot of the keel, a little like flying a kite. All rigging easily detached for ease of transport. Zenith is a fully detailed model of a cruising yacht of a John Alden type built in the USA in the 30s and 40s. She would be well appointed below and very sea kindly. She is rigged as a Bermudan schooner, considered a radical departure from the traditional gaffed rigs of the day. The long keel made long passages easily handled and the medium draft meant safer passage on the enclosed waters of the US east coast. Zenith is complete with her dinghy and deck furniture. She was lovingly crafted by Jackie Wellington here in New Zealand. Many hours of care have gone into her construction, and she is truly a beautiful little ship. She has one small area of damage - see close up photo - where a small area of her rubbing strip on the mid hull is missing. The hull is not damaged, just the applied strip, and this could easily be repaired. Zenith measures 37.1/2 inches long and 33.1/4 inches high. (95cm x 84.5cm.)
