Works of the Right Honourable Lord Byron - 4 vols - John Murray, London 1818-20 Set of 4 volumes of bound folios printed by the original publisher while Byron still lived. As some volumes have copyright dates of 1818, 1819 or 1820 with series title pages placed before them all dated 1820 I believe this to have been a John Murray binding dating from 1820.The boards in couple of cases are nearly or completely detached & in a couple of cases are still firmly together. In all volumes the binding of the pages themselves are solid and the pages are quite clean with minimal to no staining nor foxing. The buyer might like to have these rebound. All volumes contain the name of an early owner. M. Harvey. One notation states "M. Harvey presented by Wm. Hosack." After some minor research I see intermarriage between Hosacks and Harveys in Pennsylvania and Ohio in the early to mid 19th century; I have no idea when these books crossed the Atlantic but given the more recent book collector source it had to have been no more recently than the 1950s. My suspicion is these have been in the US for a century or more longer. Hosack appears to be a Scottish name that also appears in County Down in (now Northern) Ireland and among "Scotch-Irish" populations in the United States.Any questions please feel free to ask.
