In this auction we a pleased to offer a very rare illuminated Glass Globe, a true piece of history! This Globe represents the political borders as the Nazi Regime envisioned it in c 1940, though not reality..... Hitler chose not to recognize the Treaty of Versailles, in which Germany had to give up Colonies in Africa after loosing World War 1. This 1940 Globe however displays these Colonies lost in 1918 to be part of the German Empire. In addition to the rare mapping we would like to point out unique design of this model which is in the authentic German Bauhaus Style! Clean minimalistic lines and a mounting consisting of aluminum and polished chrome finish. The Bauhaus Style, also known as Modernist and Machine Age, emerged in the early 1920's in Berlin ( Weimar Bauhaus School of Design ) and lasted several decades. As matter of fact, the style has once again regained popularity within the last few years. And last, this is a glass globe, and it made it through WWII without being broken! The light is functional! Because Europe uses 220V instead of 110V as in the US , the lighting works, but is not as bright as it would be in Europe . To plug it into a US outlet, you will need a conversion plug. This can be obtained in any local office or travel store for a minimal amount. You can also re-wire the Globe, but because of authenticity we will leave that up to you.... We are offering the opportunity to obtain a true piece of history, for Globe collectors as well as any Political History Buff! Description: .The Globe is made of glass, covered with12 individual gores of paper and one polar calotte representing the mapping and very large! Details are crisp and colors are vivid. All language on the Globe is in German. The base is made of very heavy metal and has a chrome finish. The half round meridian is made of aluminum. The light inside the Globe is functional. Total height of this Globe is c 16.5" with a diameter of c 16". Condition: The Globe is in very good condition, considering its age! The mapping shows only minor wear in form of s scuff marks, no loss of mapping! Base and meridian are also in very good condition, no cracks or rust. The base could use a good polish. Please see pictures for details. The age of the Globe has been determined by the political borders it displays, which (partially incorrect) are as follows: Europe : Germany is shown close to the height of WWII. Austria has been annexed (1938). Czechoslovakia is no longer one country; part of it has been occupied by Germany (1939). Istanbul in Turkey is also shown in its old name Constantinople . Middle East/Asia: Manchuria of China is shown to be owned by Japan instead and re-named Mandschutikuo (German spelling). The Marshall Islands as well as the Caroline Islands are shown under Japanese mandate. What is today Thailand , Cambodia , Laos and Vietnam is shown as Siam and French Indo China . India is displayed as British India . Pakistan is not in existence. Iran is visible instead ofPersia. Today's Israel is still shown as Palestine . Africa : As mentioned before, German East and South-West Africa is visible. Germany had to surrender these colonies after WW1 as a part of the treaty of Versailles . Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, Belgian Congo , French West and Equatorial Africa are visible in addition to French, British and Italian Somaliland . Abbesinien ( Ethiopia ) is also marked Italian East Africa (1936-41).Interestingly, Kenya - Colony is displayed. We describe our Globes to the best of our knowledge and as detailed as possible.
