We are pleased to offer this fine 12" Standard Globe by Replogle, displaying the political borders of c 1942, at the height of WW2. In addition to presenting an interesting political map, the superb mounting highligts the craftsmanship of the deco/arts and craft movement. This particular Globe displays two nations to be independent, Tenna-Tuva as well as Tibet. Something that is rarely to be found on Globes. Tenna-Tuva, located north of Mongolia, became independent after the Russian Revolution, though was annexed by the USSR in 1944. Even today, the struggle of gaining Independence is continuing for the people of Tuva. The second Nation is Tibet. From 1911-1951, Tibet functioned as an independent nation, conducting all governmental functions without interference from China or any other country. Nevertheless, its international status was ambivalent since China continued to claim Tibet as part of its state and the relevant Western countries like Britain and the United States refused to recognize Tibetan independence. Tfore it was quite rare for Globe Manufacture to display Tibet as an independent country on their maps.
