In this auction we are offering an attractive Mid Century Modern 16 inch Project globe by Nystrom. This type globe, formally called "slated" globes, do not identify political borders or depth. The only identification is landmass, a favourite training tool for the military (prior to computers and GPS) and some schools. The finish of the globe allows for chalk to be used on it as it can be easily wiped off without leaving resedue. The mounting is a clean gimbal style design, a classic 1950's or 60's feature. This is a very large globe with a 16" diameter and will have a very bold statement wver displayed! A great Cold War Era relic! About the manufacture: A.J. Nystrom & Co 1903-current Chicago After having spent several years in the field of education, A.J. Nystrom founded his company in 1903 in Chicago . A partnership was formed with W. & A.K. Johnston of Scotland to print and supply the gores for the Nystrom Globes. The partnership specialized in simplified maps and unique globes such as the suspension model and the slate globe for the educational market. Nystrom is still producing school equipment to this day as a division of Heff Jones.
