Chancellor Collectible Auctions DESCRIPTION OF THIS AUCTION BRITISH WW2 HELMET WITH THE NET ONE NET TEAR NOTICEABLE This is a WWII BRITISH South African version of the British WWI MKI helmet. The helmet shell was of the early rimmed MKIâe(tm)s in that the chinstrap bales are not a split pin but rather a single rivet, a rivet more reminiscent of the American made M1917. This split pin would be the norm from late 1916 until the production run of the following model, the MKII, ended during the Second World War. The rim is also put on with the seam meeting at the side, overlapping and then ground smooth and flush. This is another feature of an early WWI 1916 manufacture. However, beginning in 1935 many of these MKIâe(tm)s were exported to South Africa . A South African copy of the new MKI 1936 liner was installed along with a new canvas covered spring loaded M36 chinstrap. The liner CAN BE SEEN CLEARLY IN THE PHOTO. This helmet IS distinctively South African BECAUSE T ARE the three HOLES ON THE VISOR, put t by the South Africans, to allow them to WEAR THE MUCH SEEN IN THE MOVIES cloth sun vale. This MKII is in good condition, AND RARER because it is NOT SO TYPICAL of MOST South African helmet's thin desert sand paint finish but rather IT IS OGD .....I am starting this auction at just $29.99...
