This spoon was in my father's collection of items that he brought back from Germany in World War 2. My father was a lieutenant in the infantry and present in the area as Hitler's regime fell. I have no "official" provenance on this spoon except for a handwritten note in the safety deposit box that I found upon his death. This note states that this spoon was taken from a cache of goods owned by Joachim von Ribbentrop who served as Hitler's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1938-1945 and held the rank of SS Standartenfuhrer. He was hanged for war crimes after the Nuremberg Trials.I am unsure as to the metal in this spoon. It looks like pewter, has some weight to it (afew ounces), but may be a lesser quality german silver. It is in very good condition with some usual etchings and scratches that one would expect of an item of this age and nature. We would love for this item to go to someone who loves the historical signifigance, because even though war is always ugly, there is a certain romance, honor, and pride in association with World War 2.
