For bid is a US Army map from 1919 documenting troop movements during the St. Mihiel Offensive, which took place September 12 - 16, 1918. It measures 33-1/2" x 26-1/4" and the scale is 1: 80.000. Daily positions of the front lines are shown in red over a very detailed relief map of the region. An explanation of the map information is printed in red in the upper right corner, which begins "St. Mihiel Offensive/Map Showing Daily Position of Front Line/Map Room G-3, G.H.Q./ May 24, 1919." Publication data at the lower right corner reads "Printed at Base Printing Plant, 29th. Engineers, U.S. Army, 1919." The map has been stored folded, and has the name "Capt. Gus E. Ledbetter Inf./World War I" on one of the back panels. It is in very good overall condition, with age toning to the paper noticable along the folds. T are six small areas with spots of wear-through at some of the fold meets - the largest less than 1/8" in diameter - but without loss of any significant map details or any of the lettering; one 1/16" foxing dot to the right of the center fold; small creases and soiling at the corners w the map has been handled in the past. The printing of the landform details seems uniformly sharp under a magnifying glass, but the lettering of some of the place names is less so. This does not seem to correspond to any wear to the paper surface, read more
