Let me start by saying that I have been collecting military memorabilia for over thirty years, and am myself a retired field grade officer. I purchased the hat (as well as the other items) from the family of General Standlee. This auction is for the dress blue hat, hat shield (eagle), the cap liner which fits inside the hat, and the felt hat bag in which the hat has been stored. The hat has the general's name and serial number on the inside just above the sweatband. The hat is made by the Horstmann Uniform Company (logo inside hat), Philadelphia, and the bag is from Bancroft Caps (tag inside bag). US Army General Earl Standlee's Dress Blue Hat is in very good to excellent condition with no discernable fading. General Standlee was a US Army Surgeon General during World War II and the Korean conflict and served in both the Mediterranean and Far East theaters. Biographical data as well as photos and military accomplishments can be found on the web. I will answer all questions to the best of my ability so please do not hesitate to ask. The following is for information related to my other auctions: "Highlights of the grouping include the Order of the British Empire (w/military distiction) and the Legion of Merit. Other medals were presented by Korea and Brazil, plus other countries. Half of the medals including the O.B.E. and the L.O.M. have the Generals' serial number written on the back. T are eight miniature medals (not all coincide with the full size medals) included as well for a total of sixteen medals". The medals and Belt Buckle (hallmarked) are being sold on separate auctions and are NOT INCLUDED in this auction. Please email with questions, requests for additional pictures etcetera. We can exchange phone numbers and discuss condition, lettering, etc.
