This collection consists of upwards of 400 photographs relating to one German officer in the years from 1936 to 1959. The bulk of the collection deals with the years from 1938 to 1946. The officer, whose name was Gustav Geiler, and his association with the Third Reich appears to have started in 1936 when he entered the public works program, which had been started by Hitler's government in 1934, called the Reichsarbeitdienst or RAD. One of the two ring binders covers those years, beginning in 1936 and ends around 1939 with a set of phtos of the German invasion of Poland . What is especially unique about the collection are Geiler's extensive annotations. He is also very good about dating particular events. The larger of the two ring binders covers the period from 1940 to 1944. Geiler appears to have been in the frontlines during the Germans' overruning Belgium and the army's sweep to the coast. T are photographs of of the panzer advance on Beaumont, sunken ships in the harbor at Rouen, as well as phtographs of extensive damage to that city. Photographs of other French cities which were in the path of the great sweep to the sea include Lille, St. Valerie, and t are a number of exceptional photographs of the English Channel. The figting in and around the port city of Brest is well represented in these photographs Geiler appears to have been stationed at a Luftwaffe air base in Denmark in the years from 1942 through 1944. The coverage of everyday life on the base is extensive. Altogether, I made over 100 scans from the two albums. I was only able to show a sample of what I considered to be some of the more important events covered in the collection. Also, the photographs are necessarily quite small since I had to combine four and five pages from the binders in order to make the best use of the available space for pictures. Anyone wishing to see other scans or larger photos are encouraged to use the "ask seller a question" option. Please include an email address since I cannot attach photos to a message transmitted through Ebay. Some of Geiler's post war activities are also included in one of the album, and t are newspaper clippings of an award he was presented in 1959.
