This is an amazing collection of equipment and documents from the World War II-era Army Air Forces Department of Weather. The prime piece is a Radiosonde device that was launched with a weather balloon and brought to earth on a parachute. T is a date stamp inside the box that reads "June 15 1945." This all comes from the state of a man trained in weather during the war. The Radiosonde itself is in very nice condition. It doesn't look as if it was ever used. T is no parachute that I can see. But t is a lot of electrical equipment stuffed into the small box. T is a separate glass "electric hygrometer element" manufactured by Friez Instrument Division of the Bendix Aviation Corporation. It is stamped "Dec. 7 '44." The anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor of course. Among the paper work with this auction is the instruction book from Friez. Also in the auction is: A War Department maintenance manuel marked "RESTRICTED." U.S. Weather Report from the weather bureau addressed to the Civillian Pilot Training at the University of Oregon. These are still sealed in the paper sleeves they were mailed in. Radiosonde Guides from the "Army Air Forces Technical Training Command" from 1944 and stamped "Chanute Field, Ill."
