WORLD WAR II USS ARIZONA COLLECTION After talking with and sending photo's to Phillip Wiess Auction's in Long Island, N.Y. It was his suggestion to sell the collection together, not to seperate it as it was a World War II , USS Arizona archive. This collection revolves around the life of a young sailor named David Archie Ingraham FC3C. David died on Dec 7, 1941 at Pearl Harbor aboard the USS Arizona. David grew up in Topeka Ks. Items up for auction. 1. Crossing the Line with the USS Arizona July 1940, this is a soft cover book that details the ceremony when crossing the equaitor, t are photos of the Arizona, her commanding officer's, photo's of the ceremony , written text about how a pollywog becomes a shellback. A list of the crew. David Ingraham's name is listed on the crew. 2. Two original telegrams that David's family recieved , one dated Dec 21, 1941 to inform his family he was missing. Second telegram dated Jan 29 , 1942 to inform family that David had officially declared to have lost his life. 3. Placard with one star on it that families would hang in the window. 4. David's last letter to his mother dated Dec 2, 1941. This is a very sad letter, front and back of stationary sized paper. Envelope included. 5. Envelope dated July 31 , mailed from the USS Arizona from David to his mother in Topeka, Ks. 6. Newspaper cut out of Shawnee County veterans who died during the past year. David's name is on this list. 7. Two newspaper clippings of David missing after Jap attack, and Topeka parents get late son's citation. 8. Three page letter from USS Arizona survivor Henry B. Duncan, FC3C to David Ingraham's mother. 9. Hand written poem about life as a sailor, I believe this was written by "Dubb" Dwight Ingraham, Davids brother. 10. Newspaper clipping about David being missing, and about loosing his life. 11. Newspaper clipping from The Topeka State Journal dated May 30, 1946 listing Shawnee County's Stars of World War II. 12. Envelope to Mrs Ingraham, dated Aug 29, 1939 from someone at an air field in Washington,( cant make all the writting out.) 13. Newspaper clipping of Our Honor Roll Davids name appears on it. 14. 16 original photographs of life in the navy in the south pacific.Photos inclued japanese soldiers surrendering, dead bodies on top of a tank, hospital pictures,photos of village.These are all original photos not copies. 15. Three original photo's of Japanese surrender aboard the Missouri on Sept 2 , 1945, I am not sure but believe that Dwight Ingraham , David's brother took the photos and was a crew member on the Missouri.I am still doing research on this. 16. Several item from David's days in school in Topeka , Ks including grade cards and High School Diploma. 17. Hankerchief that says Mother US Navy 18.Navy Patch 19. Three Photo's with "Passed by the Navy" on the back, a fifty centavos from Japan. 20. Two propaganda leaflets. Not really sure what they say , written in Japanese. 21. The photo album, this to me is the best part of the collection, Page one has a picture of David Ingraham in his sailor suit, page 2 has 6 pictures from a USO show that stared BOB HOPE, t are pictures of Bob and other celeberties. pages 3,4,5 are a collection of Navy south pacific pics. mostly landscapes. Pages 6-10 are more photos of a sailors life , things they would do daily. pages11-13 6 photos of topless native women.14-15, boxing pictures.16-19 sailor pictures. page 20, original photos of "crossing the line" these pictures are from the Arizona showing the actual ceremony in July of 1940 aboard the USS Arizona. Pages 21-24 Family Pictures, page 25 more topless native girls,26-29 more sailor pictures. This photo album holds 150 priceless original photographs. 22. Topeka Daily Capital newpaper dated Dec 16, 1941.Headline reads "US looses battleship" 23. Newpaper from The Topeka Daily Capital dated dec 22, 1941.Has artical about David missing. 24.
