World War One and World War Two Medal Set, Minatures, Badge, Photos and Postcards They belonged to 2071 Private Hubert Taylor who served with the King's Liverpool Regiment in WW1 and with the Gloucestershire Home Guard in WW2. Medals The WW1 medal set comprises a 1914/15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal and quite a rare MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL . The first three are issued to 2071 Pte. H Taylor, Liverpool Regiment. The Meritorious Service Medal is issued to 240501 Pte. H Taylor 6/Liverpool Regiment. The medal index record confirms the change of service number (see photo 12 in the listing). The medals are faded and the ribbons are missing. There is also a WW2 Defence Medal in its orginal box addressed to Mr H. Taylor. Both it and its ribbon are in superb condition and look as though have have rarely been out of the box let alone worn. Photo 3 in the listing shows Hubert's set of minatures that are all in good condition and include both the WW1 and WW2 medals. Postcards Photo 4 in the listing shows five photographs and postcards relating to Hubert's time in the army. The top left one shows a group of men in a tented camp. They are wearing the cap badges of 6th Battalion King's Liverpool Regiment Territorial Force (see the question at the bottom of the listing) and I think that it shows Hubert during early training as it is postmarked in Rotherhithe and dated 15th September 1914. It has been made into a postcard and was sent to Mrs M J Taylor at an address in Cheshire but contains no other information. The top right one again shows a group of men in uniform during early training and wearing the same cap badge as in photograph 1. It has been made into a postcard and was sent by Hubert's mother to his brother who was 2nd Engineer aboard the SS Highland Scot. It is dated 30th October 1914 and his mother asks proudly "What do you think of Hubert...." although the rest is difficult to read. The bottom left one is the same as photograph 2. It has again been made into a postcard but wasn't written on. The one on the bottom right shows a group of soldiers and nurses outside the entrance to a hospital and has again been made into a postcard. It was sent to Mrs M J Taylor at the same address as photograph 1. It reads "Dear Mother, Just a few lines to let you know that I am getting on well. Have you heard from Cath {?} lately. Best love to all, Hubert". It is postmarked in Abingdon and dated 4th July 1915. The postcard on the right is entitled "Campagne de 1914 - Ruines d' YPRES". It was sent to Mr J Taylor at the same address in Cheshire as poscards 1 and 4. It is postmarked at a Field Post Office on 18 April 1915 and marked as having Passed Censor No 369. It contains no other information. There is also a Christmas Card entitled "Christmas Greetings France 1918" from 1/6th Rifle Battalion The King's Liverpool Regiment. It is simply signed Hubert and I also found a photograph of him in it (see photo 5 in the listing). It lists the Battalion's engagments including "Disembarkation in France, Feb. 25th, 1915." (see photo 6 in the listing). Hubert's medal index record has the date of entry into the theatre of war in France as 24th February 1915 (see photo 12 in the listing) which is presumably when the troop ship set sail. Photographs There are four small photographs stuck to a piece of card with the writing "Belgium 1914 / 1918 War 1/6th Btn K.L.R." Two show men in the trenches, one shows a packed troop train and one shows the ruins of the Basilica in Albert on the Somme (photo 7 in the listing). There are also three large photographs of B Company, 11th Battalion The Gloucestershire Regiment (Home Guard) from Hubert's service in WW2 (photos 8 and 9 in the listing show two of these Home Guard photographs but there is another one too).
