1893 CHICAGO WORLD'S COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION 11 VOLUMES SET OF ART AND ARCHITECTURE BOOKS You are bidding on a very rare complete collection consisting of a set of 11 volumes of fine art books/folios! These books/folios are from the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 and are entitled the Official Illustrated Publication "Art And Architecture" by William Walton . The books were limited to 1,000 sets and t are probably only a handful of complete sets in existence today. The only records I have found of them are at the Smithsonian and the Illinois Institute of Technology w, due to a grant, they were digitalized. This set is hand-written in red ink as Set #482. All major artworks contained in the volumes are listed in detail below. The actual books themselves are all blue hardbacks. These books are incredibly rare and are of museum-quality material. The publisher, George Barrie, was known for the high quality of the engravers he hired. Condition: All books in this set need to be rebound but t is no damage and only minimal foxing to some of the pages and no foxing is on any of the art work. I will also provide insurance and a tracking number. Dimensions: Each book is 20 ¼ x 15 ¼ inches and the whole set together weighs approximately 50 lbs. Historical significance of the World's Columbian Exposition: The second half of the 19th century was an age of fairs and expositions held in London, Paris, and other great cities throughout the world. The World's Columbian Exposition, held in Chicago in 1893, was the first critically and economically successful U.S. world's fair. Conceived as a celebration of the 400th anniversary of Columbus' landing in the new world, the Exposition held a near-mythological appeal for people of the time. Le Sueur (This Munich painter is one of the humorists of the modern German Genre school and are characterized by his studies of monks, peasans, and gamekeepers.) In the Garden - painted by N. Kuznezoff (Russia), etched by Eugene Decisy (This brilliant etching reproduces one of the most vigorous works in the Russian exhibit.) Grand Vase De Rennes - National Manufacture of Sevres - Form designed by Bienville; painted under glaze, background of sea green decorated with flowers and ornaments in polychrome enamel and gold by Lamber, 1893 - lithographed (This magnificent exampled of Sevres ware, is the largest piece every produced and was 150 centimetres in height.) In the Grand Plaza of the Exposition - Painted by L. Marchetti (Italy) Photogravure Facsimile (This work is by L. Marchetti – an artist very skilled at capturing the cheerful aspects of living. This painting captures a point of view that is presented from the southern area of the Grand Plaza and looks east towards the lake.) Head of Young Girl - Etching in Three plates by Maurice Deville M. H. 1889 – STE S. d’A. F. (France) After the painting by V. Corcos. (This charming tinted etching was exhibited in the room devoted to engravings in the French section of the Art Gallery and would undoubtedly have received an award if the entire section had not been withdrawn from competition.)
